This is Dag Rune Gjellesvik's homepage; you can find a separate page for Mosjøen Visegruppe here (in Norwegian only).

I often use the late night hours to sit by the synth recording and editing music. I am far from being a piano wiz (never studied this), but with a lot of fine-editing and lots of re-takes, music comes out in the other end. It's really fun to have the opportunity to play all the instruments in one, and like almost everyone that make music, I want to share my music (I admit that).

Soundcards, (especially older ones) do not convey the sound properly. Because of that, I have recorded the MIDI sound through the synth over to MP3 format. The MIDI files are posted, but to hear the intended sound you should have a proper sound card or a synth

For those who have a simple sound card, I have posted the music in MP3-format (these are near-CD quality, but good enough). If you don't have an MP3 player you can get one from here. (Windows MediaPlayer (6.0+) and RealPlayer G2 also play MP3). (Tip: You can get a proper sound even from an office PC if you listen through headphones plugged into the back of the PC.)

Comments/questions? me!

My music is divided into three categories:

Christmas songs (Mostly Norwegian - my own special versions), Disney themes, and Other

Christmas songs

I try to establish a tradition sending familiar christmas songs in unfamiliar versions to friends and others every christmas. These are songs from previous years:

Deilig er jorden (Norwegian)
(Slowrock-version, updated december 2002)

MIDI

Jingle bells
(really fast-paced rock version)

MIDI

Du grønne glitrende tre (Norwegian)
(Very slow version, updated december 2002)

MP3

MIDI

O Helga Natt (O Holy night - karaoke version)
Be Jussi Björling! Impress your friends/family and take your tenor voice to the limit - the text (original Swedish) is here

MP3

MIDI

Det kimer nå til julefest

(Norwegian)

This time in some kind of gospel version

MP3

MIDI

Lo, How A Rose E'er Blooming

One verse of the song that is sung by “Sølvguttene” (a Norwegian boys’ choir) every Christmas Eve.

Her kommer dine
arme små
(Also Norwegian!)

The song is really about children. (Does it really matter?)

Disney-themes

You may say what you like about Disney, but they often pick quality movie themes. I have taken some of them and recorded - keeping the arrangement mostly in the original style.

He lives in you
(Tina Turner's reprise-version from The Lion King II)

MP3

MIDI

Colors of the wind
(Attempt on a "symphonic" version with lots of wind and leaves in the air)

MP3

MIDI

Stand by me
(A wonderful version from "Timon & Pumba", originally with frogs in bass and choir)

MP3

MIDI

Hakuna Matata (reprise)
(Reggae-version from The Lion King)

Other favourites

I've taken some of my favourites and sequenced in my own way. At the moment, only these have passed the quality assurance for internet publishing:

Every breath you take (The Police)
I've made the muted guitar pretty much the same way it was done in a popular MIDI version on the net (unknown author - anyone knows who?).

Streets of Philadelphia (Bruce Springsteen)

MIDI

Pål sine høner
This is a Norwegian traditional folk song for children - here in a special fusion version.

For those with special interest: I record the music using a relatively simple synth - Roland JV-30. The music is recorded in MIDI format with either Jazz32 or Cakewalk express. I record the .mid files to MP3 format by using MusicMatch (or Creative’s recorder) where you can record from the line in input on the sound card (where the synth's line-out is connected). For recording, the MIDI files are played via the synth from any midi player.
